Fungal Nail

Fungal nails are incredibly difficult to treat. At the Undercroft Clinic we have found the best possible treatment includes aggressive debridement in clinic, and treatment at home using usually Lamisil 1% spray. Sometimes I will suggest the use of laser alongside these methods, or very occasionally, removal of the whole nail so treatment can be applied to the nail bed whilst the nail regrows. Unfortunately, it must be stressed, onychomycosis is very difficult to eradicate if the problem is chronic and/or the entire nail plate extending into the nail matrix.

We do sometimes recommend a fungal nail test in clinic, or at the GP surgery, to confirm onychomycosis. Sometimes it is necessary for us write to your GP to request oral medication if we feel it is the best treatment plan. We will always ask you what treatment you feel is best for you.
